MODERATE DAY HIKE 7.8 miles 2,600' elevation gain
best season: 1:30 drive dogs not allowed The best hike in Lassen Park? Yes, if you like a huge climb to a spectacular mountaintop that still isn't the biggest mountain. The view from Brokeoff may be better than that from Lassen Peak, since you can't actually see Lassen Peak very well when you are on it. For a peak climb, this hike does particularly well with water features. Brokeoff Creek is near the trail up to its origin springs halfway up the mountain. Brokeoff Springs have fresh and delicious water. This is the biggest elevation gain of any of our day hikes, but the trail is well-graded and maintained. The view from the top is splendid and far-ranging. This hike is in Lassen National Park; owned
by the public, managed by Lassen National Park. Backpacking at least
200' from water, no campfires, bear-proof food storage, required
overnight permit
available online. Maps (Aug 2017 edition)
