This is an excellent loop trip around Mount Elwell visiting lakes of Little Jamison Creek and Lakes Basin.  25 backcountry campsites are mapped offering many beautiful places to set up your tent.  One can take the side trails up Mt Elwell or Mt Washington for additional adventure. There are two small waterfalls, meadows, and springs.  A couple miles of the recommended route follow the famed Pacific Crest Trail.  There are many wildflowers in July.

Nights long in Oct, snow Nov-June. So we recommend July-Sept. There are often some un-melted snowbanks into July especially on Wades Mountain.

This hike is in Plumas National Forest; owned by the public, managed by Plumas National Forest. Backpacking welcomed; campfires welcomed, except when restrictions.

No permits needed except a California Campfire Permit is required for campfires or gas stoves.
