EASY BACKPACK 11.7 miles 1400' elevation gain
best season: 2:40 drive dogs welcome This hike is The Eddys (a mountain range just west of Mount Shasta). The Eddys are drier than some, and therefore have fewer bugs. Most of the hike is on the Pacific Crest Trail, and is easy hiking on well-engineered, quality trail. An important PCT fresh water source is at Mile 2.5. There are adequate campsites at Porcupine Lake, but outstanding campsites at large Toad Lake. Porcupine Peaks and Toad Ridge & Peak offer challenges, and superb views of The Eddys, Mount Shasta and the Trinity Alps. This hike is in Shasta-Trinity National Forest; owned by the public, managed by Shasta-Trinity National Forest. Backpacking welcomed; campfires welcomed except late Summer & early Fall. No Wilderness Permits needed, a California Campfire Permit is required for campfires or gas stoves. Maps (Mar 2022 edition)
