MODERATE DAY HIKE

9.3 miles  1,000' elevation gain

best season:
Dec-mid Apr
but not if snow below:
1,500'

0:10 drive

dogs supposed to be on leash (for Yahi portion)

Big views across the Sacramento Valley from North Rim.  Then descend to the Yahi Trail to peer over the edge of Iron Canyon.  And along the creek back to Horseshoe Lake

The trails in the North Rim area are mostly substandard, this hike selects the best of the lot.  Along with the well-designed Yahi Trail

On cool winter days when the creek is raging, this hike is passable and pleasant.  Right after major storms look for the ephemeral Iron Canyon Falls and Lovejoy Falls

The North Rim can be hot, and that restricts this hike to winter and early spring when it is green and cool

The best wildflower displays in Bidwell Park are found along the Yahi Trail, usually peaking in late March.
