The other hikes in the eastern half of Lassen Park lack dramatic vistas.  Not this one.

Mount Harkness gets you well above the broad, green forest, and up to where you can 'see forever' in all directions.

Most people hike back down the same way they came up.  But make a loop of it, for new and different sights and sensations on the way back. Such as the lakeside walk along Juniper Lake.

This hike is in Lassen National Park; owned by the public, managed by Lassen National Park. No backpacking.
